Book Rubbish RemovalWhen you book rubbish removal online you are asked to pick a load size. Get it right and the crew turns up, loads everything and leaves. Pick too small and there is an awkward conversation on the doorstep about the extra. Pick too big and you have paid for van space you did not use.
This guide explains our four load sizes in terms you can actually picture: bin bags, furniture, rooms and typical jobs. No tape measure needed.
The two things that decide your load: volume, measured in cubic yards, and weight. Every size has a weight limit as well as a space limit. Light bulky stuff like cardboard and bags of clothes hits the volume limit first. Heavy dense stuff like rubble, soil, tiles and books hits the weight limit long before the van looks full.

A cubic yard is roughly the space taken up by a washing machine with a couple of bin bags sat on top. If you can picture three washing machines side by side, that is a Maxi.
The Mini is for a handful of items or a small tidy-up. Think of it as everything you would fit in the boot and back seat of a large estate car.
Anything involving rubble, soil or plaster. Even half a dozen rubble sacks will be over 75 kg. Go to Midi and read the section on heavy waste below.
The Midi is our most common booking. It is the size of the average "we have been meaning to sort the spare room" job.
150 kg is about 10 to 12 rubble sacks. If your Midi is mostly bricks, tiles or wet soil, you will hit weight before space. Tell us when you book and we will price it properly rather than surprise you.
The Maxi is a proper clearance. This is the size for a garage, a shed, a large garden, or the aftermath of a kitchen or bathroom refit.
225 kg. A dismantled kitchen with a ceramic sink and a cast-iron radiator will get close. A whole bathroom with the cast-iron bath will go over.
The Mega is a full van. It is for whole-property jobs: a one-bedroom flat clearance, a house move where nobody wants the leftovers, an end-of-tenancy where the tenants took the telly and nothing else, or a builder's clear-down after a loft conversion.
Bigger than a Mega? That is a house clearance rather than a rubbish removal, and it is quoted as a whole job. See our house clearance guide or send us photos for a fixed quote.
This is where most people under-estimate. A standard rubble sack holds about 25 kg when full of brick or hardcore. Wet soil is heavier still. Plasterboard is lighter but bulky and has to be kept separate from other waste at the recycling centre, so it is handled as its own item.

If you have more than that, tell us. We do regular builders waste collections and will quote it as a heavy load rather than force it into a size that does not fit. See builders waste removal.
A few items carry a surcharge on top of the load, because the recycling centre charges us to take them or they need special handling. When you book online these are ticked as extras so the price is clear before you confirm.
Put everything in one place. Bin bags in a stack, furniture together. Count the bags, list the big items, and match against the tables above. Round up if in doubt.

Add a note when you book. If it turns out to be bigger on the day, we will tell you before we load anything, and you decide. Nobody gets a surprise on the invoice.
Every load includes: a two-person crew, all the lifting and carrying from wherever the waste is, loading, transport and licensed disposal with a waste transfer note. Same-day collection across Greater Manchester and the North West is usually available if you book before midday.
Roughly 8 to 10 standard black bin bags, depending on how full they are. A Mini load is one cubic yard, a Midi is two, a Maxi is three and a Mega is six.
A Midi load. A sofa, two armchairs and a coffee table fit comfortably in two cubic yards. Note that sofas carry a small surcharge because of the fire-retardant foam disposal rules.
Usually a Maxi load, three cubic yards. If the garage is stacked to the roof or has a lot of heavy items like a workbench, tools and paint tins, it may tip into a Mega.
Each size has a weight limit as well as a space limit: 75 kg, 150 kg, 225 kg and 450 kg. Rubble, soil, tiles and plaster reach the weight limit quickly. Tell us when you book and we will quote it as a heavy load instead.
We tell you before we load anything. If the pile is bigger than the size you booked, we explain the difference and you decide whether to go ahead. There are no surprise charges after the job.
